Monday I went to the Museum of Russian Literature with Tania, Zach and Alisa. Museums are so traditional here, pretty much random artifacts placed under glass with some labels. Not too exciting a display. American museums seem to try a bit harder to engage you, something I realized more after working at a museum last summer. Also the Museum of Russian Literature is more like a place of research than an actual museum open to the public. They sometimes give you a hard time about getting in, but we didn’t seem to have any problem. So there were some cool things in there, like some death masks, Lermontov pistols from his duel along with various personal articles like a notebook, pens, and cane. There were some cool originals of big art magazines that came out around the turn of the century that I had only seen slides of (e.g. The World of Art, Apollon, The Golden Fleece, etc.) There were also some original letters or manuscripts of Chekhov, Mayakovsky, Bulgakov, Blok and other random chaps. Pictures!

If you can guess who these two are I'll be happy. The one to the left is too easy though.
