Heaven for any drunkard--there's one or two of these at pretty much every metro stop (beer and vodka kiosks). This is a nice looking one.

Because I had to. (I haven't seen a Starbucks however.)

Dangerous smoke break (building across from me).
ramblings from the former soviet union, and other randomness

Speaking of random, do you know anything about this news blurb about Putin pulling up a boy's shirt and kissing his stomach at the Kremlin? Is this something you see Russians doing often to random children?
Don't knock MacDonalds - from friends who have visited Russia in the past - I hear they are great and relatively clean places to pee.
And now I'm wondering - does the Russian version serve водка?

oh believe me, i'm not knocking macdonald's. Best place to go if you ever get stuck when the bridges are up (open 24 hours and free bathroom that sometimes has toilet paper). Also 6 rouble ice cream. The food is worse than in the states though, at least from what i've heard. We're going there on July 4th to celebrate our citizenship. It's funny to see the few random american fast food chains--like a KFC and a Subway. mmm
Kyle-
no I hadn't heard about that, I haven't been following the news at all since I've been here (terrible I know). I asked one of my professors about it and he said that Russians are very affectionate to children and maybe that's why. (which reminds me I saw the elementary school he went to yesterday!)Or maybe Putin is just weird.
